Nestled on an olive tree and vine covered hillside above the winding mountain road that hugs the dramatic coastline between Collioure and Argelès sur Mer, this hotel has a truly idyllic setting with views to boot. Just 30km from the Spanish border, this Catalan enclave with its mountainous backdrop and sandy beaches is the dramatic meeting point of the Pyrenees and the coastline.

With its strong Catalan roots and culture it is one of the most stunning and welcoming parts of the southern Mediterranean coast. The small port of Collioure, nestled beneath a natural cirque is a stunningly pretty village with narrow cobbled streets brimming with excellent restaurants tempting you in with fine Catalan cuisine and great seafood.

The Grand hotel du Golfe was recently renovated in 2008 and on entering the bright and airy reception area and bar cum coffee lounge are blessed with large glass windows showing the sunny gardens and coastline outside. The onsite restaurant which offers breakfast and a la carte evening dining is modern and elegant with an outdoor terrace for the warm summer evenings.

The hotel comprises 36 modern and chic rooms spread over 4 floors within the hotel. They all have a warm feel and are all individually decorated with sea views. Some rooms have Juliette or enclosed balconies whilst the garden rooms on the lower floor have windows with views of the gardens and the sea. The framed ”Paris Match” newspaper covers and cartoon strips that decorate some of the rooms and hallways date from the 1970’s when the hotel was first built and give an insight to French life in the 70’.

The outdoor pool with its sun bathing area is great for relaxing and enjoying the warm summer breeze off the Mediterranean. If you fancy a dip in the sea then a short walk along the coast takes you to the Le Racou beach and its cute port with its small sandy road lined with a few cool chill out bars and restaurants. The hotel is also able to organise speed boat hire on a half day and day basis (subject to availability).

If you are in need of some pampering after a long day exploring the area and gastronomy then why not take advantage of the onsite spa area and book a private session for two in the hammam and Jacuzzi area or perhaps a private massage or beauty treatment? Alternatively, you could just relax in the hotel lounge bar with an aperitif before a delicious meal at the restaurant.

For guests who are fans of gastronomy, the nearby village of Collioure is a gastronomic hive of activity and just a short drive away. There is plenty to do and see in the area: exploring the wild and beautiful coastline with its beaches, towns and mountainous hinterlands. Just 2km along the coast is the buzzing seaside town of Argelès-sur-Mer which has plenty of entertainment and activities on offer as well as the largest beach in the Eastern Pyrenees.
